This is what my dad and I did this weekend... It's not finished but it is a good start... From this: To: Just put the bondo on but haven't start sanding it off yet... It won't have alot of bondo when we are done... And look NO HOOKS... LOL

Kinda funny how stuff like this ends up in complete families... I don't have a Pic YET of all of ours but my brother "Red Wagon" has a '72 521, my dad has a '71 521, and I have a '71 521 and '72 510... We work on these all the time and it is like our best way to communicate, having this in common with each other... Anytime we need a part or tool or just want to talk about things it always ends up talking about Datsuns... No real point to this other than it's in our family blood...

I ended up replacing all the wheel studs with 1/4" longer ones and using 1/2" spacers... I also had to use special conical/shank lug nuts (the Gorilla 68077). I used 1/2" spacers because the tires were still a bit to close to the leaf springs and I just kept it the same for the front... Thanks for all the compliments I'll post more Pic's as I do more to the truck

I have replaced all brake springs, shoes, drums and rebuilt all brake cylinders... I also installed 4" angled lowering blocks and reindexed the torsion bars 2 notches... The only problem now is the shocks are bottomed out... I'll probably get the Toxic #411015 next... Here are some Pic's

I gave my Toxic short shocks for a 2WD 2000 Tacoma to my brother and he is running them on the front of his '72 521...

I did a search and looked already and didn't come up with very much I'm pulling the motor/trans out of my 510 (1800, A87, SU's, MSD 6AL, Z 5-speed) and it is going in my 521. I'm starting the process of acquiring everthing for a KA24DE swap for the 510... My question is, what type of linkage are people using in the 521 trucks? I want to still use my stock cable... I know I will probably have to build some sort of a bracket, but I was just trying to get some ideas on what they look like and where to place it... If anyone has some PIC's please share Thanks

I'm 41 but still work on the Datsuns like I'm 21... drives my wife crazy, but she loves me... Married 5 years (this time) 4 kids (total) I'm on my third PL521 and my second 510 I need to hurry up and retire from the Air Force so I can have more time to ummm... probably work some more... I wish it was to work on Datsuns all day...

While I was stationed in Germany that was 1 of the places I missed... I hit Paris, Italy, England, and Austria... It sounded like it would have been a blast... maybe next summer when I visit the inlaws back in Germany...

I was digging through some stuff one day and found this... I got it from the county fair in Red Bluff, Cal. around '82-'83... It is made of glass and is about 10"X10"... It used to be in a cheap cardboard frame to hang on a wall...

I asked the question because I wanted to find out if others had come across the same problem or if maybe I had done something wrong... I hadn't even tried to put a lug nut on it yet because the spacers won't be here until Monday(hopefully)... I was trying to use some advance thinking and see if I can do something else in the meantime... like getting longer wheel studs...

I want to put on my Z-71's w/205-40's on my truck but the tires hit the leaf springs... The rims are already machined out to 4"... I figure I need spacers to get them to not rub, but how much spacer? If I put 1/4" spacers on can I still run the stock studs? Thanks

Are the rear brake adjusters on the 521 the same as the ones on a 620? I went to replace the brakes in the back on the truck I just picked up and the one on the passenger side was missing... Thanks in advance

I have been a lurker for too long and thought I would come out and introduce myself... My name is Jamie and I'm out here at Beale AFB in NorCal... Been in the Air Force for 21 years... Had my first Datsun when I was 17 ('71 510 wagon)... My parents had a '69 510 wagon that I drove for 2 years in high school... Since then I have had '70 and '71 PL521's (both gone) Now I have a '72 510 2 door and I just picked up last week a '71 PL521...($250) I obviously enjoy talking about, working on, and just appreciating Datsuns like everyone else on here... Thanks to everyone that has answered my couple of questions that I posted up here and I will start putting in my 2 cents when I feel I can contribute... I was looking at Suspension Techniques Springs and they list for the 510 two different part numbers for short or long struts. How do you know which ones you have? By the year? Thanks

Does anyone have part numbers for the replacement bushings for the front end of a '71 521??? Thanks

What needs to be done to the trans crossmember for this? Flip it around? Redrill holes? Thanks

I forgot to ask... Should I be using the Z slave cylinder or can I use the stock? I am also using the stock clutch master cylinder as well...

I'm pretty sure it is the 200mm clutch... I haven't measured it... So should I try the L18 collar and throw-out bearing??? What do you think about the possibility of the Brass Input bushing wearing out??? I don't want to pull the transmission again... I have had it out already 4 times since March... Oh well...
