    tranny question

So what do you think is wrong with my setup? I have a fresh (stock) rebuilt L-18, SU's, Z 5-speed... I have the stock clutch for the L18 and I'm using what I think is the throwout bearing and collar for the Z... The collar I'm using is longer... My problem is that I wore out 2 throwout bearings in less than 4 months... Right now it is making a noise again and I suspect it to be another throwout bearing... When I put in the clutch I can feel it in the pedal and I can hear it loud... It only happens for about a second when the throw out hits a certain RPM... It sounds like the bearing spinning and vibrating has lost the grease in it... It was brand new My other idea is: Could it be the input shaft bushing maybe real worn out and that is where the vibrating in the pedal and the sound is coming from... The RPM's from the input shaft could be vibrating... I appreciate the help and ideas haubstr
  2. This is the piece that screws on to the speedo gear on the transmission and changes the angle 90 Deg. so the speedo cable doesn't have an extreme angle. Does anyone know what Datsuns they come on? I broke mine and I'm looking for another... I found my original one on a '80? 510 wagon derby car... It was pretty beat up... Thanks Haubstr

    Wheel Studs

Does anybody have a part number or the exact size to ask for? This is for a 71 521... Thanks
  5. Did anyone see this thing http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200110029734&rd=1 Looks like a Blue marker special to me...
  6. What is the Real name of the piece that the brake M/C line feeds into? I call it the distribution block because the line from the M/C feeds in and it makes sure that all brakes get equal feed... I know that isn't the right name.... What is it? Thanks
  7. Does anyone have the name and part number of the SU air filter/cleaner assemblies? I'm talking about the 9-10" individual round ones. I would like to not spend more than $50 if I can get away with it. The ones I got with my SU's are real rusty and dirty... Thanks
  8. I bought a new fuse box on EBAY and it is all the same except the one on my car has an extra wire that seems to have something to do with the headlights. If I put the new fuse box in and don't hook up the extra wire anywhere my low beams stay on even if the switch is turned off... Any ideas??? Thanks
  9. Well I messed up... I thought I had a Dogleg (because that is what I was told)... I didn't measure and when I pulled the 4 speed out today I placed it next to the "Dogleg" and what do you know they are different lengths... I didn't measure but it looks like a Z trans... My questions is does anyone know the exact length the stock driveshaft needs to be shortened to fit a Z trans? Thanks Jamie
  10. I guess I should have explained a little better... I mean't the length of the collar... I have a Dogleg and it didn't have a T/O bearing... I took out an Auto so it didn't have one either(obviously)... I have both the short and the long collars... I just don't know which one will go on it... I have an 1800 with the stock clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel... I guess it is all 200mm? Any suggestions Thanks
  11. I have a question on the size... I pulled the auto out of my car and I'm putting in a Dogleg... My question is which T/O bearing do I put in? The tall one or the short one? I have both... 1 looks like it's about 2 inches tall and the other is about 1 1/4 - 1 1/2... Thanks Haubstr
  12. Before I put the clutch and pressure plate back on. isn't there some sort of a brass sleeve I need to change? Where the transmission shaft slides into? Thanks Haubstr
  13. I saw a thread the other day that listed a bunch of part numbers for different Datsun parts that you could get at local parts stores like napa or kragen... Can someone point me to that thread... Thanks

    Clutch hose

Does anyone know the Part number for the Clutch hose that goes between the slave cylinder and the metal line... I'm trying to find a part number equivalent for NAPA or some other name brand for this hose... Thanks
  15. Here is my delima. Here is a pic of the 2 speedometer gears next to each other... The red is from the auto and the other is from my dog leg 5-speed... I tried to put the red one in the dog leg so it will still match my rear and it won't fit... Do I have to keep the original one in the dog leg? Thanks
  16. So I can take the speedometer drive pinion (Gear)? from the Auto and it will fit in the Dog Leg? Thanks for the help
  17. I am hopefully putting in my dog leg this weekend which has the speedometer hook up on the same side as the auto I took out... I thought I heard that there was something different about the speedometer gear in an auto from the manual...
  18. Is there a difference between a speedometer cable for an automatic and a 4-speed?
