  1. Welcome.  I run a 510 in vintage in VSCDA events typically.

I had a set of those MK63 Sumitomo brake calipers.  If they are the early kind that fit the 240Z, I don't think you will find vented rotors that fit.  The opening was quite narrow for the original unvented 240 rotor.  There is another version which fit vented rotors.  Is that what you have?

    Check out this information:  http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=MK63

    and: https://www.jdmjunkies.ch/wordpress/2021-01-17/240z-the-guide-to-sumitomo-mk63-brakes/

That said, if they are the early kind and you really want to use them, you can split the body and put in a spacer.  Wilwood does this on calipers now.   Those are FIA homologation parts, so no vintage group is going to reject them.

  2. So Matt what are your sources for OEM look bolts then, OE dealers?  Probably more costly but effective.  Or replating and reuse?

When I worked in the assembly plant, it was like working in a large metric fastener store.  Scored lots of hardware there.

  3. The most noticeable thing about the last 8 years of Russia collusion propaganda bombardment from the left is the fact that they are the party historically sympathetic and in league with the USSR/Russians since the 1920's.  Again deflection for those too stupid to know the history.

Oh, and Mr, Obama (go ahead take Crimea...) famously caught on open mic telling the President of Russia that he would have a lot more flexibility to deal with them once he is reelected.  Don't fall for this Save Ukraine! stuff from the left.  It's all smoke and mirrors, since they historically have been supportive of Communist government (which modern Russia still retains aspects of).  This is not a statement of support for Putin, as I think he is a despicable person in many ways, and ultimately cares not what harm is inflicted on his own people as he satisfies his ego.

Find and read the book The Candy Bombers about the Berlin Airlift.  Democrats at the time were all about appeasement and giving in to the USSR and surrendering Berlln.

Instead of a 12mm head on the bolt (making them impossible to find from bolt suppliers)...

BTW, not necessarily for this application which requires the accurate shoulder size, but these guys sell JIS head fasteners (sometimes they call them "small wrench"), but they provide the head size in the detail summary.

Yellow and bright zinc available.  I have ordered a bunch of stuff from them.

Lots of ISO stuff too, so watch your thread and head sizes. https://belmetric.com/bolts/hex-flange-jis-10-9/

  5. Interesting.  I have a set like that with the flat in my collection of drive shaft shoulder bolts, and they are brand new.  I don't recall where I got them.

Nissan prices on these types of items like the 510 rear halfshaft to outer flange bolts have gotten ridiculous, at about $18 each (as discussed in the other thread about the oil cap).

My argument would be that it is the dealers. However, having 3 with the same price raises yet another question. My argument against Nissan doing it would be that if they quell demand and still have stock on hand it would either have to be scrapped or sold for pennies on the dollar. Every time I was in front of some type of rep from Nissan, I was harping on the vintage Datsun parts and not a single one was interested. I did this from the early 2000's up to about 2-3 years ago.

The dealers listed on that site aren't necessarily offering that same price, the dealers local to you that participate in the program just pop up on that site when you search, then you have to select one to deal with.  This selection made not knowing if they offer a better or further discount than the price shown on the main page.  it's kind of a balky system.  I usually google the part number and get the prices typically shown by the bigger Nissan online dealers to see if it comes out in the ballpark at all.

My closest dealer to work stopped offering their discount last fall some time, so lately I have ordered parts directly from Amayama and the prices even with shipping are still cheaper than Nissan US.

  7. I have noticed in the past year or so that Nissan has drastically raised the prices of these older parts that they still produce.  I suspect they are trying to quell demand so they can justify stopping production of them.  Items like the 510/240Z outside door handles have about doubled in price.

  8. Looking good on the parts.

Another question on the plating- I had some done and it did not turn out as shiny as I would have liked.  I think I just glass beaded most of mine.  What do you do for preparation?  Steel wool?  Wire brush?  Something else?

    Thanks.

    Dude, you're old.

I am, officially, as I can get senior discounts.  Old habit calling it fiche I guess.  I use the online car manuals site now, but I did use microfiche in the 1980's when I was a parts guy at a Honda dealer.  I'm sure you are understanding correctly as you have mentioned you were a parts guy.  I never did work at a Nissan dealer though.

Somewhere around here I may still have an envelope with some microfiche in it.  Not sure if they are from Honda or some later Mitsubishi stuff.  I do have old Mitsu parts books.

I have a question for a Georgia hillbilly so I am glad you chimed in. I was driving the backroads in Georgia in the fall. The people white or black were friendly and polite but let's just say the towns were not very prosporus. Sadly there were "Gaming shacks" it seemed like every few miles down the road. I don't remember these from taking the same route 3 years earlier. Are these relatively new? I hate predators and this is how I see the owners of such businesses selling hope to those folks where there isn't a whole lot of hope around.

Predators.  Good word.  Just like the usurious check cashing/cash advance places are in certain areas of town.  I think some states are just as bad with the lottery.  Bad money decisions seem to cluster.

  11. Thanks Darin.  Looking back at the second picture you posted and as you noted, the arch is about the same until just past the crown (moving from body end to hood end) between the original and the aftermarket, with the span of the aftermarket arch being less.  This is the same area where you have contact to the cowl.  Unfortunately it appears with your combo you also have contact even with the larger span original hinge.  Thus the aftermarket would be even worse.

If you bolt the hood on, does it open far enough to latch the prop rod?  Is it close?  Could you lightly grind the hinge to get enough clearance to make it work?  With this hinge and cowl combo, does the hood hit the cowl also?

And then no matter who immigrates, that all have one characteristic:  they are ambitious.  Even the criminals.  Ambition along with work ethic is gone from this country.  And if you are involved with trying to hire people to work, it's not easy.  There are signs here (SW PA) for Help Wanted.  A local garage:  Mechanic Wanted.

WHAT SUCKS, is that border states are being overrun.  I wonder how they managed all the immigrants coming thru Ellis Island?  I'm sure they didn't let them pile up in NYC (or did they)?

I agree with some of your assessment, but it can't be uncontrolled.  Ellis Island processing you basically had to have a sponsor.  Many stayed in NYC, but a lot went further west or other points as well.

Look into why there is mass migrations and their causes and deal with that much farther south.

Oh, did you miss the announcement.  VP Harris is on that job.  Consider it covered and well accomplished, just like her.  😉

I don't know, the whole heavy-handed approach the officials took to the truckers was pretty interesting.  How many bank accounts did the despots freeze or seize?

  15. Proper spark plugs are not necessarily dependent only on octane. Proper heat range can depend on a lot of factors such as compression ratio, combustion efficiency, proper mixture, engine timing, etc.

    How do they look?

I hate to poo on your ideas, but I try to adhere to some basic rules. One of which is that if the car is complete and in good shape, you owe it to the car to keep it original. Or mostly original.
