  3. hey guys and gals, i have my 2 521's up for sale or preferably trade ones a parts truck, but could be drivable with some work, but is pre smog for you cali guys :) has original l16 and 4 speed. the one that isn't running or driving needs a timing chain since it jumped on the PO when the had a slight roll over, so i got the head off and cleaned up already, the valves did not get bent and there is hardly a valve mark on the head so if you just get the timing kit and head gasket and small stuff its prolly guna be a good driver after the brakes n clutch fix... no pressure, but im sure that's just from sitting since mid 80's.... this parts truck is only got about 50k on it guys!!! hardly any rust on the cab!!! it is the original green and has the re-trac mirror for it inside the other way nicer truck is drivable, i drive it almost everyday now. it is also the same origional green as the other truck and runs pretty damn good after it warms up. it does burn some oil, but im sure its jus the valve seats. the 4 speed shifts real good and the brakes need to be fixed up i think it needs a new master as these brakes dont hold pressure, you have to pump them every time... i got use to it and it doesnt bother me at all now, but others might not like it. it has a re upholstered interior, alot better than when i got it i know i didnt say much about them, but please ask ma any and all questions and i will be sure to get pics of them! would like to trade for a 240sx!!! or offers on other cars kinda like that... rwd, sports car, not guna kill the bank... miata, rx7, jus lemme know what you got to trade!!! i can pay cash on my side too if needed to be! but would love a decent 240sx....
  4. ok so i seen a guy at a gas station who insists that datsun made a 3 cylinder and put them in the readsters..... only 9 were ever made, and i guess theres one around here that is only 5 grand..... idont believe that with out seeing it. unless you guys assure me differently. he also said that datsun came out with a rotary and about 10 thousand were made and they sucked ass, never heard that one before either, ive heard ppl swapping them in but never factory.

    what are my options for styles? and will one from a 510 work? they look hella close, but i have honestly never seen a 510 in real life only on the net... actually i have the only datsun i have ever seen in real life... so what grilles work guys? if the ones from some cars work, that might open up our selection... mines a lil bent up and need a new one
  9. after readin a lil bit i think ill do the long rod l18... anyone here done this? i read wat parts to use, but i wana kno wat it puts for power roughly compared to stock l16... sorry for the questions, jus tryin to learn the way of the datsuns lol
  10. hey guys, so i just got this 521 a few weeks ago, and it has a stock l16 in it, but i would like a lil more grunt to it. so i have the l16 in the truck, and a z24 laying around, and i will be getting an l20b in a few weeks,and can get an l18 from a friend for little or nothen and i can get a ka24e out of a truck for dirt cheap..... i want to keep it l series, with a 5 speed added to the equation when i swap this new motor in :) so... what can i build out of all these motors? i hear frankenstien all the time, but which one makes the best power... i will run twin side drafts, not sure whick ones yet, i also have a set of bike carbs sitting on the shelf :cool: if wanting to go crazy... what i actually want is a mean 4 banger.. want it to have a good sounding lumpy cam in it, with the side drafts, and a hard, fast revving motor. i know it might jus be better to swap to a ka and be done, but i wana keep the l series.... so, what parts from what motors? i know i know... its still a 521, it wont be "fast" but i would like to have a surprise to friends that take a spin lol please help a guy out... also i would like to be able to drive it with the l16 till this new motor is built..

  12. well i have a 38/38 weber i could throw on there, and on the l20 i heard its jus as good to throw on the l16 exhaust mani since its jus as good as a header compared to stock l20 manifold... this seems odd, but i have heard it once or twice on here... and it would have a 2 inch exhaust all the way back to a cheap fart cannon off ebay, then another prolly 2 feet of exhaust out the back.. so the can would be tucked up somewhere by the tank, it actually sounds pretty good, and not like shit like most little hondas.. lol and i would like to throw in a reground cam.. but i dont know the specs to get one ground to. anyone? also stiffer valve springs? who are the experts? lol ... lets jus make this not so many q's, is there someone that has a good write up on a built l20 pushing some good power? i would like to find some good reads on some tricks and specs for these motors, and their weak spots...
  13. ok thanks bonvo! i think i will keep the stock motor in here till she lets go then put the l20 in, but i wana get a few upgrades for l20 first... wats best to start with? carbs? ignition? then cam... i like the idea of side drafts and a cam, but i want a good ignition system too, also, what head would be the best for power? if the deal goes thru, it will be out of "radioredlines" 720... haha uh oh... he uses frams :( lol
  14. so i think this would also have a matchbox dizzy am i correct? would that be hard to connect to what i currently have for a coil n stuff? sorry this is my first l series...
  15. question on l20 swap.. is it like a direct bolt in... like will oil pans swap over? cuz the 521 is a front sump, and the l20 is a rear sum correct? cuz its cumming out of an early 720... and it will bolt up fine to motor mounts n tranny and all the wiring and hoses are the same loction right?

  19. ok guys im goin to pick this up in like 20 minutes :) its about a 2.5 hour drive each way... wish me luck :) also, one huge question! the owner of this sais that the seats are not hardened so he has to run lead additive in his fuel.... is this true or is he full of himself?

  21. ya that was the plan, was to buiuld a motor slowly on the side, but i kinda wanted to get this one a little hotter till the other motors goin... i was thinkin like puttin on the side drafts then when i put the new motor in, i will already have them to use :) but i dont know wat to do to this motor really.... and i dont know what head is on this yet either... so that will be a factor...
  22. well i have been reading, and it sounds to me like the stock exh manifold flows really good already, so i will go with that, an i am going to do the 2 1/4 exh when i get it.. and as for dide drafts, i would like wat ever i can find for a low price.... ok so i know it wont literally be low, but u all kno wat i mean by that! i do have a 38/38 but im sure its way over kill and wouldnt idle for shit lol and as for a future motor swwap, im not completely sur what i want... i have been tryin to find info on the frankenstien motors, but i cannot for the life of me find that thread... please help guys...
