    i would like to start this thread to help new guys out, or the ones like me that have not known. what are the differences between the heads? and pics to show the differences. pro's cons, comparisons. reason i start this is becuase i need to know how to tell if i have an open or cosed chambered head. its a w58 peanut head. will post pics later.
  2. w58 head, i thought i got a pic of that.. guess not. Weather or not its an open or closed, idk. It does have round ports though. I believe this came out of a late 620 though. Also, i have 2 dipsticks.... one on the pan, and one on the bock. I will get pics of that later. My radiator was also painted black. but years of abuse caused it to peel off. So i took some works toilet bowl cleaner and scrubbed the top with that.
  3. also found a pile of old rubber bedliners at work. They are all out of trade in's. So i took one home and cut it to fit. I'll grab another and re-do it when i get that gas tank out of the bed. Also notice the rivited on patches the truck has. one on lowr passenger fender, and on one the front of each fender

  6. wel i washed the engine, and i have a valve cover leak, so its oily again. might go take a pic now though. I adjusted the valves today, as i didnt know when the lat time it was done, and it was a little clattery and had a slight stumble. After adjustment, it ran much smoother, less noisy, and started easier also. still a slight hesitation, but that is carb problems, but not too bad. Would like to put a weber on if one of you have one for sale.

  8. almos 10, still at work... have a full brake job left, coolant, power seering, brake and trans flush. along with 1 hub, 2outter tie rods and an alignmen tonigh

  10. well, if im coming to canby, i need parts cheap! So i can get it reliable. I want a set of side drafts, but i am clueless at them, so i figured id just put a weber on. Then when i arrive, you guys could help me tune them. I'd really like to take a long trip with this datsun, and come see some awesome j-tin! get to meet all of you, hang out, lots of pics. :) sound like a great week could be happening for me in a year!
  11. yes, this is all domestics. They do the same song and dance every year. a few years ago, we had about 20 import and minitruckers come, the cops gave them so much hell and tickets, they will never come back. They'd get a ticket for loud exhaust, and theres an open header rat rod doing a burn out a block ahead. Cops around here are dicks to the new generation of car scenes. Except the few younger cops. There actually pretty cool.
  12. see, around here, there one car show. VEry know hot rod builder has been doing it for about 20 years now. Anywhere from 1000 to 1500 cars... i think canby might feel really small. you think a datsun could do the trip? haha and if it doesnt, do i have a ratsun wrecker coming to pick my ass up off the road?
  13. hey guys! Which is the best show you guys have been to? How many cars showed up? Reason i ask, me and the wifey would like to DRIVE the Datsun to the west coast next summer for a show. i was thinking jccs, but then i see all the fun you guys have at blue lake and canby. would just like some input. The goal is to have swapped the 5speed in by then, gone through the motor, disc brakes, and a paint job. but wi will start with the motor and trans first. let it be known, it would be a 24 hour drive, EACH WAY, just about 1500 miles each way also... a long way for a datto. hopefully i will have all the bugs worked out, and no problems.
  14. oh and i also got an exhaust on it today! Its been open manifold for the past 3 weeks. I put the l16 manifolds on it when i got it, to rid the egr and smog shit the l20b had. so i got paid today from a side job (fireworks) and went and got the exh done. 1 3/4 from manifold to the rear end where the thrush turbo muffler is. (2in inlet, 2in outlet) Then 2 inch pipe to behind the rear left tire in factory position. with a 2 inch rolled lip exh. tip. I droped it off at my lunch break and asked wat its going to cost, paid him and went back to work. he delivered it back to me, and said if i knew it was going to be that much work running it through the torsion bars and trying to weld to the cast manifold. He said i should have paid about 100 more. but he has ripped me off many time, and about everyone else in this town also. So i said oh well, and kinda laughed it off. more then likely his welds will break in a couple weeks, since they all suck at welding. the only shop in town that will do it though, exhaust pro's.

  16. wat do i have for 510 parts, not a whole lot, some door locks, all the glass, handles, door pannels, rear seat in good condition, white a few other things just ask and i might have it. and im not looking for a new dash, i am looking for one to strip and run a metal dash

    yea, i had a 521 dash stripped in my last one. then i traded for another Datsun. heres a bad pic of it, it did have a thin layer of cloth over it to match the door and kick panels. no padding under it or anything.
  19. changed the oil. wix and a mix of mainly regular 10w30, and mobil synthetic 10w30. At work, if theres just a swig of oil left in a jug, we dump it all in one container, 1 for each weight, blend doesn't matter. Then we use it in our personal vehicles. Replaced rear diff fluid, added some additive to it. Filled up transmission also, as it was a good amount low. Did a good inspection, found i need the front end gone through, king pins, fulcrum kit, tie rods, idler, pitman. its pretty loose. Its all fixable though in the end with time and money :) also found rear trans seal is leaking a little bit. when i drained the oil, i noticed it seemed clean, like not at all dirty, like 500 miles clean. Looked at the oil filter, and someone wrote on it the date it was last changed. 7/09!! wow this last owner told me he had it for about 3 weeks and did not drive it much. i believe him now 96,502 on the odo today

    tail lights.

    Hey guys, not much of a car guy, but are these tail lights getting hard to find? Reason i ask is because i know of a junk yard that closed up in mid 90's. i know the owner, and there is a set of perfect tail lights i found in one of the old buildings. If they would help anyone, i could go get them. I just dont know if there is anyone needing them so i did not pick them up.
