smoking L20

My 71 521 with an L20B was sitting for 3 years when I bought it due to an overheated and warped head. I had the head machined to flat and did nothing else. I put it back together and now it runs like a top, no coolant loss, lots of power, starts right up on frosty mornings, good oil pressure and doesn't get hot. The problem is it smokes like a freight train. I'm thinking maybe valve seals. When I had the head off the cylinders looked good with barely any ridge. I also asked the previous owner if it had smoked before she parked it and she said no. So waddafug? Any ideas? thanks guys.
