I tend to disagree....based on what I've heard.  Your alternator is air-cooled and you need the fins....I think.  I'm sure that they can be trimmed some.

Every example of a 240sx alternator I can find online doesn't have fins on it

The V belt pulley you can cut the fins off.

I have an exploded diagram of the 240 sx alternator. There are fins to the front and the rear on the spinning rotor part. So all internal. If I had known this I would have done a better job.
