datzenmike
They all have a bit of play. When installed the nose of the input shaft is supported by the pilot bushing which also aligns it. Definitely replace the pilot bushing, they're only $5 To get the old one out I use a smallish screwdriver and hammer it in along the length of the bushing in three places. Then pry the pieces loose into the middle and pull them out. They are made of powdered bronze compressed hydraulically and then heated and fused together then soaked in oil. It's porous so don't lubricate the new one. Carefully tap into place using a piece of wood to protect it. Quote Link to comment

mklotz70
You can also "press" it out with bread and a wooden dowel. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
That's the cleaner alternative to grease but you do need a tight fitting dowel. I have a tool I have never used that reaches in and adjusts to grip the back of the pilot bushing, then use a slide hammer. I came up with slitting them because I had no other choice if I wanted it done in a timely manner. Finished in the time it would take to go in the house and get a slice of bread. 1 Quote Link to comment
