WrenchinWest
Recently acquired a 1986 Nissan pickup 7k4 4x4. There is no fusible link installed. Previous owner just soldered all the wires together and landed it directly on the positive battery terminal. I’d like to order some fusible link wire on Amazon and add some in there. Can someone help me out with what gauge to buy for all 5 of the wires? The 5 wires are 1) white wire 2) red wire 3) white/red stripe wire 4) white/green stripe wire 5) white/black stripe wire. Thanks in advanced. https://photos.app.goo.gl/kSnW3pH5H1sZjWhC7 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I sent this last night. Need to confirm that this is a California emission truck. If there is an O2 sensor in the exhaust manifold and round 6 wire connector at rear of the carburetor... it's California emissions. Is it??? Fusible links are specially coated with a plastic that will not catch fire while the wire inside melts to protest the things on that circuit, just like the fuses in the fuse box. They should never be replaced with ordinary wire. There are three fusible links or 5 is California truck. Green (40 amp.) joins to the White/Black wire Black (80 amp.) joins to the White wire Green (40 amp.) joins to the Red wire If California truck there are two additional Red (50 amp) (your brown) links that go to the White/Red and the White/Green This is probably what you should have... I think they are actually Red but age makes them look brown. 24022-80W01 is the part number if this is a California truck.. https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/nissan-fusible-link~24022-80w01.html ..... and unavailable. WrenchinWest
It does have the 5 wires .. it also has the O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold and the 6 wire round connector behind the carb. Can you help me with the correct gauge of fusible link style wire to use on all 5 of the wires? I do plan to buy actual fusible link style wire (With the thicker insulation coating) as I’d like to do this as “correct” as possible. https://photos.app.goo.gl/2jC4T1g9bfmDdVhH8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/QxWXwLVzasQLCU756 https://photos.app.goo.gl/HZGqDAwuX9ywZfku5 Quote Link to comment
WrenchinWest
I did some converting and I came up with this: x2 24gauge fusible link wires that i will connect to the red, and the white/black stripe wire. X2 21gauge fusible link wires I will connect to the white/red stripe wire, and the white/green stripe wire. And one 16gauge fusible link wire that I will connect to the white wire. Does this sound about correct? I really appreciate your time/assistance. Quote Link to comment

Thomas Perkins
Brown fusible link is used to protect an 18ga wire. A Green fusible link is used to protect a 16ga wire. A Red fusible link is used to protect a 14ga wire. A Black fusible link is used to protect a 12ga wire.Jun 15, 202 Quote Link to comment

Can you see the ugly drawling I made? 20-gauge fusible link wire (from Amazon) to the white/black-stripe wire, and the red wire. 18-gauge fusible link wire (from Amazon) to the white/red-stripe wire, and the white/green-stripe wire. 16-gauge fusible link wire (from Amazon) to the white wire. how’s that sound? Correct? also, to my understanding: white wire - for charging system red wire - head lights white/red-stripe wire - main fuel relay white/green-stripe wire - main fuel relay white/black-stripe wire - ignition … what is the red/blue-stripe wire and the red/yellow-stripe wire? And why are they plugged into each other? Quote Link to comment
