datzenmike Posted January 4 Report Share Posted January 4 It's a splined joint. It should just pull apart. Mark so the splines go back exactly as they are now. Unless damaged/worn and the driveshaft now wobbles causing vibration I would just leave it alone. If off the differential, try tapping on the yoke that holds the U joint. Quote Link to comment

I figured it would just pull out, but I guess that's just what happens with rust If it doesn't come out, I'll leave it alone. I had not idea that was a threaded cap there.... Mike what's the need for the cap there? There is a grease fitting for that splined joint.... it should be able to slide in and out smoothly during suspension movement.... Does it move at all? You could probably take that fitting out and spray pb in there ..... Quote Link to comment

datzenmike Posted January 5 Report Share Posted January 5 It allows the driveshaft to compress and expand during suspension movement so needs grease on the splines. If worn there will be movement laterally at the spline. If so the balance will be way off and the driveshaft will vibrate. In forth the driveshaft spins at engine RPMs. I had a 720 slip yoke in my 620 and it was making noise. The driveshaft shop told me what chev van had that was similar, found one in a wrecking yard and he converted it. Quote Link to comment
