Z24 Oil pump losing prime

The spindle is supported above the gear by a bushing as it is probably pushed upward buy the crankshaft worm gear. If the spindle was installed from the top it would push up into the distributor is my guess. 

 

I pulled a high volume KA pump in the wrecking yard and was in such a hurry to see the oil pressure results I swapped it right in the parking lot. Naturally the damn spindle fell out and I had to find TDC and piss around getting the 11:28 setting.

 

Spindle falling out with pump and timing chain tensioner falling out if you remove the cam sprocket are just two thing that the L series does.

Yup, prob so. Some friction retention at dist. woulda been a nice touch.

LOL, learning the hard way is rough but makes BIG impression and slows one up considerably.
