Shane nakaya
I am looking to find/buy a new shifter preferably a short throw one. Does anyone know of any good ones or places to find one? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Shortening the shifter moves it farther out of comfortable reach. It should fit in the palm of your hand while you sit with shoulders back against your seat. Leaning forward for 1, 3 or 5th is poor form and so is leaning forward to grope around for it on the floor. You can keep the truck's shifter length while shortening the throw by raising the fulcrum point. Lengthening below the fulcrum point. Doesn't take much. 1.......3.......5 neutral gate 2......4.......R Becomes more like 1.......3.......5 neutral gate 2.......4.......R Does not change the sideways distance through the neutral shift gate and you lose some mechanical advantage same as cutting the length but the shifter remains up near the steering wheel.. Short throw doesn't always mean a shorter handle. It means exactly what you described. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
There was one made years ago by a member. I tried it at Canby. It did shorten the neutral gate. Bit expensive but worked. It was slightly more effort to use as the mechanical advantage is lessened but that is unavoidable but with use you get used to it.. Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
I do remember a short throw shifter available in the aftermarket a long time ago, but good luck digging up that information now. The lengthening mod is so very simple. Just make sure to get a good, hot weld on it and let it cool naturally (don't quench it). Quote Link to comment

Stoffregen Motorsports
$220 isn't bad. Look at what all comes in the kit. Quote Link to comment
