IHaveNoIdeaWhatIAmDoing
So I recently pickup up an 83 Nissan 280zx 2+2 that was a rolling chassis. I pickup up a 79 model engine and transmission for it. I am curious if I will have an issue with the 83 wiring harness and ECU not being compatible. I am planning to use the throttle body and MAF off of the 79 engine. Quote Link to comment
Bleach
I don't think it will hurt anything to plug it in. The ECU for the L28 non-turbo are all very similar. 1981-83 are identical. The 1979 should be ok to go with. I don't think there were any sensors added in 1981+ Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The '79 and '80 uses the standard E12-80 matchbox module. For '81 the 280zx and the Maxima switched to an E12-93 Beside the top two terminals C & B there were two added on the bottom right side I & W. It is vastly more complex inside than the E12-80... E12-80 internals... I think it alters the timing advance on the fly. I know that if you use this in place of an E12-80 the timing retards as the engine revs up. Guy on the realm had this problem. I think it can be disabled by grounding one of the I or W terminals. This means the '81 harness will have at least two extra wires. Quote Link to comment
