Hi I"m a new member but not new to the site. Been coming on and reading for the last 2 years.  But now I have a question. As title says I have  a 1982 720 4x4 with z22 engine but now I have a chance to purchase a complete 1996 D21 for $700. I would like to do the Ka24e engine swap which does not seem the hard. The question is I see a lot of threads using 240sx engine and the harness  but none using the D21 harness. Has anyone used the D21 harness? If so any info would help.

I have no problem with electrical work as I just built a new harness on my 71 240z bringing it up to date. Also installed harnesses in anything from a 32 ford to 68 camaro

I would post a picture of my nice truck but dont have a url

This must be a 2wd D21? The KA oil pan is not going to fit your front differential. I guess you could cut the bottom out of your 4x4 oil pan and have it welded to the KA.

The problem with the D21 EFI harness is that it's integrated into the main harness on the right side of the engine bay while the S13/14 EFI harness is separate from the right side engine bay harness and is on the left side and enters the cab by the driver's knees and easily removed.  You'll have to pick it apart, but it's do able.

Because you are a 4x4 I would keep the D21 5 speed rather than using the 720 5 speed. The 4x4 primary driveshaft to the transfer case is short and easy to work with for lengthening. The D21 transmission is twice as strong and once adapted there are plenty of 5 speed replacements later if needed.

I have an 82 4x4 with the truck kae in it. You will need to make a Franken pan using the naps bottom welded to the ka pan to clear the diff. Redeye's mounts make it easy to bolt in and the cam am box helps with the wiring. I used the 240sx intake and wiring. It works but the intake manifold ports don't really match up that well internally. I have a 240sx head that some day I will eventually install but runs well for now and is a massive improvement for power over the Naps engine.

I wouldn't call it "drop in". The engine physically fits easy but radiator hoses, power steering, exhaust ect will give all kinds of fights and figuring out a solution. I think my power steering alone contains a mix of nissan, honda and isuzu parts. My radiator hoses still look they were done by Dr. Suess. KAE exuast manifold dumps directly into the frame. Every solution comes with a new problem.
