Ring gap orientation on L20b

Any suggestions on orienting the rings gap on my L20B pistons. I have the how to rebuild your OHC book witch mentions the

expander/spacer at 12 o’clock the bottom at 4 o’clock the top at 10 o’clock.

bottom compression at 4 o’clock

top compression at 10 o’clock

I’m guessing I followed this when I built the 1600 that’s in the Goon. Just wondering about any suggestions from those great motor builders and racers out there who have been through this and what they suggest.

My FSMs say top and second ring 180 to each other. Avoid ring gaps lining up with the piston pin or the thrust direction. Thrust direction would be on the spark plug side 90 0 to the piston pin on the L series. Same with oil control rings.

So if standing at the front of the engine and looking down at #1 cylinder if 12 o'clock is to the rear then 10;30 and 4:30, and 7:30 and 1:30 o'clock are safe and 180 apart from each other.
