Lifted2wdatsun
hey guys, i got a big problem, i think. it started a few days ago. i have a '71 521 and the ign light came on, headlights are dimmer when it is on. but at 3000 rpms or so the light slowly goes out and you hear a yeeeeeaaaaart sound from under the hood. Voltage Regulator?? Alternator?? Ground??? stock everything besides electronic ignition, and weber carb. no stereo or nothing , any suggestions would be great!!! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Most common cause: Alternator brushes are worn down to the limit, sometimes they are on, sometimes off. About $5 at NAPA. Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
I might have a 35amper if you have a L16 in there. 253 631 4226 Free But i have to ck. ggzilla is correct prop the brushes are worn. you could take it to a alt repait place and see how much they charge. but last time I got brushes it was 5$ PS Is that your truck in the Avitar? Is it straight? I have some chrome Pathfinders . sell them for 60$ Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Check the fan belt, it's loose. You can probably turn the fan blades by hand while the pulley slips. Loosen the alternator adjusting bolt and pry it away from the block till belt is tight and re-tighten bolt. The belt should move about it's width if you push hard with your thumb. The belt might be 'glazed' too. It's worn until so shiny it slips. Replace it. Quote Link to comment
