Rotten_Rods Posted November 3, 2019 Report Share Posted November 3, 2019 I have a l18 in my 1980 4x4 Datsun that I’m just about done rebuilding. I slapped a new water pump in with a new fan clutch attached, but I’m have a really hard time finding a fan that’ll fit. I only have about 1.75” clearance in between the radiator and fan clutch... datzenmike Posted November 3, 2019 Report Share Posted November 3, 2019 There are at least 2 different fan sizes. The plastic fan blades should clear with that much space. L20B on left. Z series on right though this may not be carved in stone and may be on air con equipped L20Bs. Depends on what clutch fan pump you bought. Quote Link to comment
wayno Posted November 3, 2019 Report Share Posted November 3, 2019 Maybe you can find a Datsun/Nissan diesel fan, that one should clear the radiator, there are other Datsun/Nissan fans offset like the diesel fan also. The diesel fan is on the right. Quote Link to comment

wayno Posted November 3, 2019 Report Share Posted November 3, 2019 Mike, this photo you posted is kinda, well deceiving, the fan on the left is upside down so it sorta looks like it will stick out/be offset towards the radiator in the photo when in reality it will be more offset towards the engine, it is offset the same as my diesel fan, I hope Rotten_Rods noticed this, the size difference of the clutch part is easy to see. 5 hours ago, datzenmike said: There are at least 2 different fan sizes. datzenmike Posted November 4, 2019 Report Share Posted November 4, 2019 Yup didn't notice when taking the photo. The bolt pattern is the thing. You can't swap the fans. I did have a pump with small metal tabs that allowed the larger fan to fit the clutch fan on the left. I never saved them. 1 Quote Link to comment

I’ve been searching a fan that’ll fit the L20B, but all I find is the Z fans. Some look like they’ll fit but I’m not willing to risk it.
