B-210 GX
If you couldn't tell by the username, I picked up my first Datto - and coincidentally, my first car - about a month ago, and this forum has been extremely helpful to me. So, I figured I'd make a build thread about the car I've been asking questions about. She's a 1974 B-210, with the A13 (bitch to find parts for, btw) and a 5-speed manual. Paid $1,000 for her - not running, but I think I've narrowed it down to a wiring issue. I believe the car was origionally yellow, and painted a maroon color. Unfortunately, not the best paint job. Lots of flakes and filler showing. Rust isn't that bad at all. She has some aftermarket Keystone rims, which i've been told to hold on to. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/thiscatbites134/20161007_175725_zpshd1mesvb.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f308/Ryan_Marlman/20161207_170736_zpsrdr2quj2.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f308/Ryan_Marlman/20161207_170727_zpsvzihzbmy.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f308/Ryan_Marlman/20161207_170718_zpscxvmavnv.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f308/Ryan_Marlman/20161207_170753_HDR_zpsqg5hn5is.jpg Interior was redone - pretty damn well, imo. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/thiscatbites134/20161207_170827_zpsdnzfhzfi.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/thiscatbites134/20161207_170805_zpswyedd48a.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/thiscatbites134/20161011_073447_zpseamjirsq.jpg http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f302/thiscatbites134/20161011_073440_zps7epjdmyf.jpg Obligatory engine bay shot. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f308/Ryan_Marlman/20161103_150645_zpsfrhxjjzv.jpg Since this photo was taken, I've replaced the fuel pump, swapped to an electric distributor, and cleaned up the alternator. Note the nice 32/36 sitting on top. That and amazing compression test results lead me to believe the engine's been rebuilt, hopefully with some performance goodies. Got a new coil and other miscellaneous bits on order. Muffler's blown up and the header is rusted to hell, so I'm planning on having the whole shebang redone by the local muffler guy. I haven't touched the brakes yet, but the PO said the rears were leaking real bad. That ought to be fun. Right now I'm just trying to get her running, but she does have future racecar written all over her. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The GX was only available from Aug '77 and they had A14 engines. Five speeds were only available after April '76 and were of the dogleg pattern with reverse above first... R..2..4 1..3..5 So, someone has moved a few things around if that's a '74. The car number is stamped into the sheet metal of the cowl just above and behind the valve cover. 2 Quote Link to comment

When pasting photobucket images you must have the img tag closed on both sides of the file location *[*img] [*/*img] -ignore asterisks. Good score! Definitely someone's baby at one time, lots of work done. 1 Quote Link to comment

B-210 GX
Datzenmike, I'm almost certain it's a '74, and I was kinda curious as to why all the manuals I read never mentioned a 5-speed or a GX. Someone probably snagged that badging off another car, along with the trans and the steering wheel. I'm also either searching it up the wrong way, or something, because all searches i've done on the number turn up no results. Very interesting car. And thanks Dguy, was wondering what I did wrong. And yes, lots of work. At least most of it seems like solid work. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
lol, like a detective mystery... On the flat area of the cowl above and behind the valve cover, the vehicle number is stamped. If it was a '74 B-210 the lettering would begin something like... KL B210 SRU K.... coupe L ... left hand drive B210 S.... standard model R... 2 door U... federal (non California). A later model would be KHL B210 SFRU K... coupe H... A14 engine L... left hand drive B210 S.... standard model (a blank would be deluxe) F.... 5 speed R... 2 door U... federal What shift pattern does it have?????? Later B-310 (210) 5 speeds fit the earlier cars. Quote Link to comment
B-210 GX
There is a certain mystery to it, yeah. The only stamped number I could find starts with HLB210. I'll update you with the exact number when I get home. The shift pattern on the gearshift has reverse top left, but I won't know for sure until it runs and I can find out. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
That's a dogleg 5 speed. There were two used on A series engines. One on the later B-210 and one on the first year 210 (B-310) Quote Link to comment
B-210 GX
There's not a whole lot original on this car lol. Someone's done a lot of work to it, and I guess the trans was some of it Quote Link to comment
Dguy210
It's a 74. The engine bay is very different on the 74 versus other years 1 Quote Link to comment
Dguy210
For example; no relay box next to the battery and no fuel return line. Should also be a small metal box with a red button near the base of the battery, although this may have been removed. These are 74 only features. Looking closer it is also the original valve cover too. Says Dastun on the top and has the little sheet metal clip on the left side on the front for the fuel line, later years use a riser tied into the front bolt to hold the fuel and return line. On the A12 the metal clip is on the right side of the cover. 3 Quote Link to comment
