1972 Datsun 521 - Door Lock Actuators

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody,

I am currently working on a 1972 Datsun 521. I am currently redoing the Interior of the Vehicle and have purchased and Alarm System that I am installing inside the vehicle while I was doing this I figured I would purchase and install a Universal Door Actuator for Power Door Locks. However I have never worked on a Datsun from this year. The Issue is that in order to engage/disengage the locks the Door has some sort of Mechanism that won't let the locks work unless it has been rotated twice in this case the door has to be completely shut before you can use the Door Lock/Unlock Rod.

Has anybody successfully installed a Door Lock Actuator on a Datsun 521? Did you run into any issues with the actuator breaking because you activated the door locks without the door completely closed thus destroying the Actuator Gears or Motor? If so does anybody have any advice?

I was thinking of installing another switch to be wired so that power would only get sent to the Actuator if if the switch was engaged kinda like a hood/Trunk/Door Pin Switch

Aren't you only going to lock or unlock the door when it is, in fact, closed?

Yes I would only use the FOB when the doors are shut however sometimes the clickers go off in your pocket or the doors dont get shut all the way so engaging thr lock without the mechanism I am gonna guess assume would cause the acuator to break
