sanyantho
Hi Hainz, What is the benefit of going with the Pertronix? Thanks Quote Link to comment
datsunaholic
Pertronix kits are simply solid-state replacements for points. Points are mechanical and wear out, both the cam follower and the actual breaker points only last so long. The Pertronix, being magnetic and using a solid-state ignitor, removes those wear items making for a more reliably-timed spark. But the drawback is you don't get a HOTTER spark (allowing for wider plug gaps) because you still have to use the high-resistance coil or teh ballast resistor. Otherwise, the current draw is too high and it fries the pertronix unit. 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Get a later L20B '78 remote igniter or '79/'80 matchbox distributor. They both do the same thing but the matchbox module is just the '78's remote igniter that has been miniaturized. Both handle a lot more current than the Pertronix and can use a matching lower impedance coil for a much hotter spark. 1 Quote Link to comment
