jfbrink
Hello, I'm going to remove my steering box and shaft so that I can paint the engine bay before putting my new engine in. Do I simply remove the three bolts mounting the box to the "frame rail" and the three bolts holding the shaft to the box? The linkage is already off, as that makes moving the engine in-and-out much easier. Thanks, Jesse. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Beware. It may be one piece column and box like the 521 and 620. Split those apart the the worm gear and the recirculating balls all fall out. and it's one hell of a mess to put back together. Not saying this is the case... better wait for another 411 owner.. jfbrink
Yeah, that's exactly the mess I'm hoping to avoid. I should probably just try to slide the box and shaft forward and out as a unit. Jesse. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
I didn't have that luxury on my 620. Had the cab stripped and my kids lift it up, back and off the steering column. Quote Link to comment
MikeRL411
411s have one piece column and recirculating ball steering box [a version of the Saginaw screw jack, used on the personnel access hatch of the final version of the Minuteman 3 launch sites]! Use "visqueen" and duct or painter's tape to block off and spray away! 1 Quote Link to comment
