datzenmike Posted November 20, 2015 Report Share Posted November 20, 2015 Spinning magnet induces eddy currents in that copper 'bowl shape thing' which generate their own magnetic field which attracts it to the spinning part and is dragged clockwise around the dial. A spring returns the needle to zero. The faster it spins the higher the speed reading on the dial. That said the spinning part should be just inside the copper thing so no it doesn't look right.
