exit64
Anybody have pictures of how the hinge and lift assembly goes together on a wagon? I didn't take it apart and want to know what order it goes back together in. Anyone? Buhler? Quote Link to comment
ppeters914
I'll try to take pics tonight, Mike. Quote Link to comment

exit64
Thanks Pete. How about the other end where it attaches to the car. I am starting to wonder if I have the wrong parts. Nothing lines up as far as I can tell. Unbelievable how fast Canby is approaching. Quote Link to comment

Nothing lines up as far as I can tell. What? That fuzzy first pic not good enough? No problem although might not get to it 'til Saturday. I have a second tail gate, so can provide hinges if you need them, though can't believe Alan would've had the wrong parts and/or not included them. Unbelievable how fast Canby is approaching. Yeah, I know what you mean. I thought I'd have my roadster done in time. Now, not so sure. Quote Link to comment
jfbrink
Mike, I reckon I'm less busy than Pete, as both my roadster and wagon are now drivers, so here are some pics of the hinge assembly for you. Jesse. Quote Link to comment
ppeters914
Nice pics, Jesse, however, it turns out Mike wants pics of the hinges that attach the hatch to the car at the top (roof), and how they attach. I took some pics, but discovered they're incomplete, so gonna shoot 'em again tonight, then post. Quote Link to comment
jfbrink
Ah, okay. Well, the wagon is sitting in my office so, I can save you the trouble: All three of those bolts hold the tongue/tab of the hinge. Best, Jesse. Quote Link to comment

Yeah, lining those up was a bitch. Interesting....yours looks like it has a retaining/reinforcement plate. Mine doesn't: Here are the top brackets (left and right): ...and where the short side of the top hinge attaches on the inside of the tail gate above the window: Happy now, Mister Mike? exit64
Thanks guys. I spent the better part of the day messing with the back hatch. Hinges are mounted and on the correct sides after a couple of attempts. I installed the brackets that hold the torsion bars but the bars themselves are MIA at the moment. They are in the pile of parts somewhere, of that I am certain. This sure would be a lot easier if this were a Roadster. There are a ton of parts on this little car. Probably go fast if I had been the one who had taken it apart in the first place too. I am in the process of finding the rubber gaskets that go around the hinge arm. No luck so far. Are they available aftermarket? Quote Link to comment

NLA like almost everything Datsun that's pre-510 or Z. OTOH, Mr. Jesse was playing with Flexane a while back to repro the horn bushings. Perhaps this is something else he can tackle? Quote Link to comment

exit64
I have a nice source for EVA locally here. Going to sharpen my whittling knife and get busy. Located the torque rods today. I see where they go but no idea how to achieve it. Looks like a quick way to get the fingers pinched big time. On the plus side, starting to get a handle on where all the spare parts are. Too many boxes to keep track of. Quote Link to comment
jfbrink
I'm still running those horn bushings on my 411s and 311; they work great. I'm also running front subframe and sway bar bushings I made. I ended up deciding not to sell them or the other parts I've developed because I couldn't stomach the liability risks, but also could not afford product liability insurance relative to the prospective sales. This item would be easy to cast, but the idea of removing my hatch to get at mine fills me with dread. Jesse. Quote Link to comment
