xsdg
"Runs fine when it's nice out, and runs poorly when it's not" sounds like the choke might not be opening all the way. Also, do you know if the truck comes fully up to temp? The temp gauge should be at around 40% or 45% when the truck is fully warmed up. 1 Quote Link to comment
harlow426@mail.com
No, you will need like 4 tools and some spare time. Also retorque the head bolts if you have the valve cover off. I am on the fence about re-torqueing the head bolts. Re-torquing can lead to head gasket over compression, egg shaped cyl bores, warped heads, broken head bolts. If motor was brand new with new head bolts...sure 1x after a dozen heat cycles(500miles). Never had a HG let go if head bolts are lubed/clean and torqued correctly.....I can hear the opposition in the background..... More than 3 degrees advance and it will detonate under hard accel, in high gear loaded on the flats. Very hard 2 hear detonation over the ex, road noise etc. If it says 5 on the hood...go with 3 and see how it runs out. 1 Quote Link to comment

harlow426@mail.com
See the FSM. I can see the FSM. It is sitting on the dash of my83kc.....right where I left it. LOL Maybe all the re-torquing is why so many z motors have blown head gaskets!! 1 Quote Link to comment
