zed
I've replaced the gearbox extension housing seal(output shaft seal?) - see pic - on my Nissan pick up twice in two months. It's the FS5W71C 5-speed gearbox. It's still leaking. The sliding joint also has some uneven 'polishing' on it now. So, there goes the budget for the engine re-build I was looking forward to...:mad::mad: Anyway, the truck's done about 250 000 miles now - would it be a good idea to get a Nissan "re-manufactured" gearbox? Or take my gearbox to a workshop? I'm not smart enough to do it myself. any opinions? I'm real p*ssed at this... Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Got to be the spline part of the drive shaft. If its corroded or worn or has rust on it, it will chew up the new seal in short order. Try polishing the shiny part with very very fine emery cloth so it's smooth and shiny. And another $5 seal. ]2eDeYe
Yeah the shaft could also be worn from debris. Did you wiggle the output shaft when you swaped the seal? Quote Link to comment
