wobbedennis
subject kind of says it all. I want to build an A-14 to the A-15 specs, but I don't know if the block will work. ideas? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
A15 uses same block as A14. The early A14 block has to be modified slightly. If it has 'A14' casting mark it is an early block. Quote Link to comment
wobbedennis
ok, it's in a 1979 210, and it's the original engine. it has the casting mark, and what would I have to do to get this engine to the 1.5L specs, with higher compression? Quote Link to comment
wobbedennis
also, may I ask what would be the best build for my little engine? Quote Link to comment
graveltrapp
Try looking over the 1200.com site. They have tons of info on the A series engines. The wiki link is incredibly detailed. http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Datsun_1200_encyclopedia Quote Link to comment
wobbedennis
I couldn't find much for these engines on that site. and the builds I can find on here are of a different engine, not the factory A series. The engine in my car is the factory A-14, so that's why I want to build it. And I don't want a radical build, I just want to bump the horse power rating to about 100. Quote Link to comment
rusty12ver
Don't know where you are located, but there are shops that can build you a motor, or If you plan to do It your self they can point you in the right direction. Do you know what shape the ports are on the cylinder head? Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
What I would do is plop a good used A15 in there. No machining, mixing or matching - it just works. A15 1980-1981 has same HP as an A14. A15 1981-1982 has less HP per datsun1200.com. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Since the head is the same as an A14, peak power will be the same, but in lower RPMs there is a 7% cubic inch advantage. To make a huge difference, bore it out. A 3mm overbored A14 will make more mid-rpm power than an A15. Of course you could likewise overbore an A15. Custom forged pistons are only $100 from Arias.
