stevenzak
Hello i have a 1980 Nissan/Datsun 210 5 speed with a A14 engine. I want to give the transmission an oild/fluid change. Ive been told that these transmissions dont actually take transmission fluid but gear oil. Is this true? What grade and product do i have to use? Thanks a lot. Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
GL-4 yellow-safe 75w-90 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
The above. Can't stress this enough. NOT GL-5 Yes GL-5 is better and stronger with 50% more anti scuff sulphur additives, but the extra additives are what is dangerous to our transmissions. Don't let some collage kid tell you it supercedes the GL-4. 1 Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
Yes, most manual transmissions use Gear Oil (90w) except for newer ones. Although back in the day, FWD transmissions used engine oil. Datsun recommended 90W for the 210. 75W-90 is even better. Its in the 210 owners manual. Quote Link to comment

arizonajones
I recently had a lot of trouble finding stores that stock GL-4. NAPA was the only place I found it in my area. Might wanna go there first. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Some GL-5 is perfect. If the label says "yellow metal safe" it can be used in the transmission. Quote Link to comment
