any tips for a head & gasket replace on a 84 ?

Cold adjustments assume that the motor will warm up to the correct lash. If the motor is already hot it can't be wrong. Cold would be fine for setting an initial lash on assembly. Hot checking assures it is correct when running.

Timing chain doesn't know if full or part throttle, it just turns. Does the 'knocking' come and go with the throttle? Louder with heavy throttle???

 

 

What did the other bearings look like? If also worn did you check the mains?
