Guest DatsuNoob
Looking for one minus the fan clutch. I've got an elec. fan I'd like to use and cant have the fan clutch for clearance issues. Was wondering if all L series water pumps will work? The reason I ask is I see all kinds of water pumps that dont include a 76 620 in their applications. The earlier ones appear to not have the clutch, so naturally that seems to be the one I want. Will it work? thanks. Quote Link to comment
84TAVeRT
you can use the 510 one... but you need to get a pulley... i am planning to do this when i rebuild my motor... i wonder if a z pulley would work? found this billet z pulley http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PP1/10-2082 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Just cut it off!!! Tha pulley is pressed on and doesn't need the clutch part to hold it. I'll post som pics of how I did it with a Skill saw and a metal cutting blade. Hack saw won't cut the hardened shaft. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
i wonder if a z pulley would work? found this billet z pulley http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/PP1/10-2082 You need a Z pump to run the Z pulley, you also have to line up the pulleys somehow as the Z pulley/pump is off in one direction (can't remember which direction though) Quote Link to comment
OL YELLER
Go to Rockauto.com....................they have what you are lookin for. and they are really reasonable too............ Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Under $4 for a metal cutting blade for the Skill saw and a minute to slice it up. The round thing at 11 o-clock is the bearing for the clutch part. Once you trim off all the aluminum just cut the shaft behind it. Try to stay away from the pulley. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/720stuff003Large.jpg[/img]"] Here's the finished product. I migged a few spots at the shaft/pulley just for ease of mind. If you trim the shaft 1/8" out from the pulley you won't need this. http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q251/datzenmike/motorwpwithclutchcutoffLarge.jpg[/img]"] Total cost $0.80 for the pump gasket. (already had a saw blade on the saw) Used a Z pump as it has deeper pump cavity with bigger impellers, and I had 3 or 4 of them laying around. If you had the rad out you could do it on the motor or use a smaller angle grinder. The engine runs quieter without that big fan roaring. Quote Link to comment
Guest DatsuNoob
good to know. So it sounds like a Z water pump is the upgrade I'm looking for. Are all L motor water pumps interchangeable? Thanks for the pics mike. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
All L and z will interchange but they will have differences like clutch/non clutch fan (two different size clutches too) different pulleys and different internal pump vanes. ]2eDeYe
The ZX pump has more volume due to a larger impeller. Just have to deal with the offset pulley issue. One way I've seen it resolved was slotted alt brack holes and a Z Crank pulley. I'm hoping I can use a shim behind the pump pulley to get them to line up. I think RIS used some washers to space his out, until they caused the pulley to crack. Quote Link to comment
84TAVeRT
someone needs to produce a billet spacer to allow use of the z pump on the 4 cylinder :) i would buy one :) maybe a kit with pump, spacer, and pulley later, Chris Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Spectre offers a shim kit for fan pulleys ;) Quote Link to comment
