Was driving home the other day and the 510/LZ23 started to miss...shut if off and tried to fire it up the next morning ....zippo.

What I have checked so far.....

Checked resistance on the Dizzy ignition pickup....703 ohms.....good

Swapped out the Blaster 2 coil for an OE within specs.

Checked and cleaned all grounds (dizzy included) and elec connections

Tested resistance between cap and high tension lead for coil...under 7,000 ohms...good

Dizzy cap and rotor are in good shape

Swapped out the HEI module

Checked voltage at coil during cranking...12 volts both sides

A few weeks ago I found a slight crack in the 'pickup'....upper right in pic

I'd swap the dizzy out....but nothing on hand.

Thoughts???

Zx Magnet Works Good If It Is Bad

Already on it....tested the resistance on one pickup from an L6 dizzy.

710 ohms....good.

They look identical...other than the wire color scheme.....2 greens instead or R/Green

We shall see.....

After further inspection...the L4 dizzy is NFG...advance plates etc.

Got it fired.....just need to make some more room in timing plate to adjust the L6 dizzy CCW

Removed one of the two pickups in the L6 dizzy and installed the L4 reluctor...etc.

Vroooom.

Well...that didn't go quite to plan.

Seemed to idle okay....but soon as I accelerated on the highway it started to buck and pop.

Stopped and unplugged the vacuum line between dizzy and intake....good to go.

Assuming the breaker plate assembly needs a lube and or a BFH.

I always cringe when I have to do this kind of thing out in public.   :D   I like to represent to the rest of the world that old Datsuns can be reliable, and I feel like when something happens out on the road I'm just fulfilling people's expectations of my car...

Amen to that!
