Can stock 280z alternator handle Hids?

I tried this two yrs ago had someone install 8k hid lights on my z.. and the next day they both started flickering and shut off..I was told by the unprofessional person that installed it that it was because the car was to old and the alternator cannot provide sufficient juice for the hid?.. is that true?.. and if so, how can I fix the prob?280zx alt?

35W HID's have a lower current draw then standard halogen bulbs (most are around 55W) so it's not physically possible.

thanks guys..I think they already come with a ballast.. and yes I thought the same thing. that the hid have a low current compared to halogen light bulbs... as far asthe harness go.. is it different then the ones that come with the convertion kit?
