Body side moldings and vinyl tops?

Has anybody ever seen a picture of an Datto that has just been unloaded at the docks with door ding protection moldings and or a vinyl roof?

 

I was told that they were all added after the cars reached the US to give them a more American look. That the materials were pretty much generic and cut and shaped as needed to each car. This was pre-Nissan, mostly 70's I think but don't know.

There are plenty of 510s with vinyl roofs and lots with door ding moldings. Mine still has them

Pretty sure door ding mouldings were all added after import, probably a dealer add on for most of em. Pretty confident that vinyl tops were a factory option tho as the posts that hold the stainless trim are obviously installed at the factory.

Yes, lots of early Datsun's have them.

 

I'm asking if anybody knows if they were factory installed because I'm being told that they were not. The door ding and vinyl roof moldings I have seen on early Dattos doesn't look the same quality as the rest of the trim too me.

i believe the vinyl tops were factory option.  Don't think dealers had this stainless pre made and at the dealership. shopping cart guards probably aftermarket... 

 

The vinyl top has been removed from my dime, thankfully. So no roof rust.

I haven't seen any so I'm thinking it's true they were added here.

Who has a copy of a factory sales brochure? That should give a definitive answer as all options are usually listed. I bet vinyl tops are factory, door guards are not.

I have a JDM 69 brochure... doesnt help for US models though lol.
