Rear-end on a Five Speed Swap?

Recommended Posts

I have a five speed I'm going to swap into my '74 620. I read through some of the posts where people have done this and I just have one question.

Do I need to upgrade my rear-end before I perform this swap?

If not, I'm all set.

Thanks guys!

no.

just make sure you use the spdo cog for the correct rearend gearing.

either by keeping the carrier from the 4 spd put into the 5 spd. Unless it's a late 5 spd. then swap out the cogs from one spdo carrier to the other.

Well, due to my smaller wheels/tires it already doesn't read right anyway... Maybe the cog in the five speed will be closer to what I actually need. lol

Why would you need to upgrade the rearend??

You're not doing a V8 swap or anything

I don't know, that's why I asked. I didn't figure I would need to, but better safe than sorry right?
