ive got a stock 79 620 that is eating alternators. they last about a week before they burn out. ive checked evereything i can imagine. grounds. shorts. new battery. and it still pops alternators. ive all but tucked my tail and given up on her. she just sits in my shop giving my other datsun dirty looks. im at the point where I WILL PAY someone to come figure this out. electrical gremlins are not my forte. its got the stock alternator. no after market electronics other than a cd player. not a big high powered stereo system... no amps... nada. any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re-build from Orielly`s ??   ,, try taking it to a local rebuild shop ,, maybe one specializing in marine engines applications.

Punkin210 http://community.ratsun.net/user/164-pumpkn210/says there`s a good shop by his house ( downtown Puyallup ) that he would take it to in our many conversations on the subject ,,, shoot him a PM ,,      he`s supposedly also on facebook group alot lately ... Check your pm's about the alt, also something else just occurred to me, your truck has a 38 amp alternator (give or take, may only be 30 amps, they got different sizes), my truck has a 60 amp alternator, is there a slight chance you may have added several new electronic gizmos for your own enjoyment that has pushed your electrical budget a wee bit too high? (like new shiny headlamps or fog lamps......a new killer stereo perhaps?) they didnt plan for that stuff in 1979 thats why your alternator is only $35 on rockauto whilst mine is like $100 and to be honest 60 amps is barely passable these days, if i put mega stereo in i would be better off with even higher

38 amps isnt a lot comparatively speaking, thats a coffee pot and a vacuum cleaner give or take.

Or for all i know your truck is bone stock, so then i would go back to what i said in pm then. Which is either:

A) you got horrible luck and got 3 turds in a row. (buy a good ac/delco or remi alternator on rockauto, not that junk from the autohut)

B) replace those negative and positive cables! and clean good behind those grounds young man!
