jammin
Okay..so i recovered from my debacle of having installing my gasket backwards the other day. So..today, installed the new gasket properly! torqued everything down..fired up truck and still have coolant leaking into exhaust. I know it's not the head gasket cause the truck never smoked until i did the gasket backwards yesterday...i still think it is leakig from the water jackets going into the intake, but i cleaned everything last night..both the intake and the head were smooth...cannot figure out why smoking so bad....is there any recommended rtv that is supposed to be used around those two copper rings on the gasket? could so much have run down my exhaust it is just residue from yesterday? Frustrated in seattle....... Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
you just got to tighten them up. But be careful it is a alum head. hopefull you have the big washers that hold botht the intake and exhaust. I have had this happen also. Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
I have always used rtv around the coolant holes. Just smear a THIN layer on both sides around the coolant holes. Quote Link to comment
jammin
think i got it under control..used rtv and then had to keep torquing down....I had to go to 18 - 20 lbs on the ones closest to the firewall....i know the manual said 11, but I was still getting smoke...extra torque gonna hurt?
