Head bolt and block clean out.

In one of Datzenmike's great posts, he told about using an old head bolt that was ground a bit flat on each side. Grease was applied to the bolt and it was turned down into the block. Any gunk in the block would stick to the greased bolt upon removal.

Great, but I do not have an old head bolt to use. What else could be used to clean up the female threads in the block ??phpgtgNU0PM-1.jpg720d2003.jpg

As quoted by Izzo, an aftermarket bolt should be very cheap

Headbolt thread pitch is metric 10 * 1.5

I also pour a little bit of thinners down the thread hole and clean it out with a rag twisted around a small screwdriver (like a cotton bud/ Q tip) then blow it out with compressed air
