810wagn
Sup Ratsun, this is the official build thread for my 810 Maxima project. I finally decided to post my build. This is actually my second 910 wagon i've owned but this will be the first time I have ever "built" a car, and my first ever turbo vehicle. I've had a few other rides, a 1992 Chevy 1500 with a 350 and a 1989 240sx and my DD is a 96 Camry but theres just something about Datsuns that I cant get enough of so I found myself another. My first wagon an '81 was given to me by my great grandma who was the original owner, got it in prestine condition with 80,xxx miles, but sadly I lost it in an accident. Here is my first wagon, some of you may have seen it before. Anyways a few months ago I picked up another Maxi, this time an 83 diesel, its a little rough around the edges and was FILLED with rat sh*t. Picked it up for $500 less motor and brought her home. I ripped out the infested interior and started cleaning her up a bit, surprisingly there wasnt very much rust (it sat in a field in Fresno CA for 4-5 years) and the body is straight minus a few dents and dings here and there. Then I put it in my side yard, put it up on jackstands and started getting to work. I started collecting parts for the manual swap and got some goodies for her while I decided what motor I wanted to put in that big'ole engine bay, thought about a V8, thought about a built L28 with some tripple webbers, but I ended up finding a nice 280zx turbo motor on CL, traded a few emails and ended up with this: and all this: f54 block, itm dished pistions, .020 over, balanced crank (was told it made 550hp with a gt30 and a different head) p90a head supposedly rebuilt (its off getting ported right now along with my manifolds) a fuel rail, some injectors, 2 intake manifolds a turbo manifold and some other bits and pieces needless to say, I was stoked  Threw the motor up on a stand and tore it down to check the rings/ bearings and so I could put it back together and know it was right. Sent the block to a machine shop to have it drilled for the front sump pickup and the dipstick relocated then threw it back together: Then I put the short block back together, and now im waiting on my head (its been a month, but I guess I cant complain when its free..) (ended up doing it myself.) also got some wheels the other day. Dat fitment....  Specs/ goals: 1983 810 Diesel Maxima chassis 1983 280ZX turbo motor getting a nice head and a t3/ t043 turbo 38mm wastegate, and the z31 wiring upgrade. Hoping to be about 330-350 wheel hp.. 5 speed swap re-do interior 200sx rear disk conversion, trailing arm setup w/ coilovers 240sx full front suspension/ cross member Greg Weld 17" wheels 8" front and 9.5" rear Fuel cell and completely re done fuel sysyem Quote Link to comment

dukerollo
Cool build! Did you do the dash flocking yourself? If so, what did you use? 1 Quote Link to comment
810wagn
Dukerollo, yea I flocked it myself. I used a kit from flockit.com, it was really easy actually and turned out pretty darn good. Quote Link to comment
HRH
Sweet!!! What offset and size are those wheels? Look like Welds? Quote Link to comment
810wagn
HRH, yea they are Welds. Fronts are 17x8 rears are 17x9.5 don't remember the offset but is fairly low because they fit inside the stock body (barely) lol.. 1 Quote Link to comment
cardana24
Nice looking build! Do you have more information on the pedals you used? I saw you said they are s12 pedals. Are these the same as the maxima pedals? I ask because I want to swap a five speed into my maxima but the pedals have been a real sticking point because I either cannot find them or they are really expensive. What year S12 pedals will work? I ended up using a set of 910 pedals I found. The mid 80's s12 pedals will work, they just take a bit more massaging to do so. I cant remember what I did with the s12 pedals I had. I'd sell them to you though if I still have them. If not check junkyards, they pop up occasionally. Quote Link to comment
HRH
Sweet build! Do the Z32 calipers bolt right on the existing hub? Oh, and do you have any info on good center consoles left? That's a long shot, probably going to modify a different console and try to blend it in with plastic weld then repaint. Ah hah, went back and read you used S13 lower control arms. Was redoing the tc rod hole the only modification to the crossmember to fit the Z32 brakes? Was that required or used for a different purpose (camber caster change, etc.)? Quote Link to comment

Yeah, if you find them I would like to get them. Do you know what all is required to make them fit? If you see any other maxima pedals pop up in junkyards around you I would be happy to pay you for you time in pulling them and for the parts. Just let me know. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
T.Redgrave
This is beautiful - more turbo wagons. Quote Link to comment
810wagn
This is beautiful - more turbo wagons. Thank you, its got a long way to go!! Turns out i got rid of them, i think another member has them now, but if you click the facebook link in my signature there is a guy named Justin on that page who has a set of s12 pedals. not sure what it takes to make them fit because I ended up using a set of Maxima pedals but they are almost identical. Sweet build! Do the Z32 calipers bolt right on the existing hub? Oh, and do you have any info on good center consoles left? Yea I used the s13 control arms and knuckles. IF you dont want to do the complete swap as I have done you can just bolt s13 knuckles to the 910 LCA. The s13 and 910 ball joint are the same... That way you don't have to do the TC rod swap, you would have to figure out the steering though, but id be willing to bet the 910 stuff will bolt right to the s13 knuckle with minimal effort I did the full swap because I wanted to have everything adjustable. the TC rods, the coilovers and adjustable tie rod ends all allow me to make changes to the suspension that I couldn't do if I had just used s13 knuckles on the 910 LCA. 1 Quote Link to comment
810wagn
Here is the list of parts I used for the s13 front suspension/ cross member swap. S13 Crossmember, LCA's, Knuckles, Hubs and Steering Rack and Tein adjustable tension rods. S14 Inner Tie Rods and SPL adjustable outers. Z32 30mm aluminum calipers and 4 lug drilled and slotted rotors (ebay special) Stance Coilovers and camber plates. For a "basic" swap all you would need is: Hubs, knuckles, s13 brakes/rotors, and springs/struts or coil-overs and possibly inner/ outer tie rods. This would be a great "stock" brake and suspension upgrade. Quote Link to comment
