Prophet1012's 1982 B310 project

Recommended Posts

Yeah i know lad, but the one selling these bumbers doesn't give you the side plastic and rubber nor the mounts, only the bare bumper. Having said that i don't like the rubber strip, it covers too much chrome (no offense intended). Look at this one, it does look very good in my opinion and it does not have a rubber strip...maybe i am wrongfully worried haha

I bent a flat bar using the measurements on the cardbox

then mounted it on the bumper to use it as an adapter on the existent rear bumper mount

I cut off some excess metal from the existent mount and drilled some new holes so they fit on the bent flat bar

I have a problem guys or rather a concern, i have a rear 1979 coupe chrome bumper with removable rubber end caps. when i removed the end caps it looked like this :

1499552_10152013359427367_863434484_n.jp

to explain better this is how my datsun looks from the side

1501756_10152009629522367_8189060_n.jpg

What i mean is that i like the all chrome look of the front and like how the rear looks with the end caps but i don't like as much how it looks from the side being that on is all metal at the front  and therear has rubber. this is where the questions come: is it possible that i mod the coupe rear bumper (give it to somebody that can weld a piece of metal on the bottom cut out (first and second pictures) and make it a whole chromed bumper? the mayor problem is that i can't find rear b310 chrome bumpers that, do not need rubber end caps (I want 1 piece chrome bumper) and don't have a cut out for the number plate, so i need to modify an existing bumper (example the rear coupe bumper)

Any help is greatly appreciated as i am at a stalemate  and can't decide on wether attach rubber end caps at the front or modding the extra rear coupe bumper.

Yes, the cut-out may be welded up then the bumper re-chromed.

That is an early B310 sedan/coupe bumper

1979 models have license number plate below the bumper, hence the cutout.

GL models had the black rubber sides. DX and CITI models had no rubber sides.

Late B310 had no plate cut-out like this 1981 DX

HEY GUYS long time no post :P i bought another b310 today at a really bargainny price, 250 euros including the car, an extra front windscreen, a prop shaft, various suspension parts and a 4 speed gearbox (still can't get my hand on a 5 speed). the engine has 150K miles but still silky smooth running. The only 2 things i don't like is the cream interior and rust god dammit. it has a few spots, but i will angle grind them off and weld new metal on it haha. St first i bought it as a doner car for the silver sunny but after seeing its road worthness i dicided to kepp the silver one in the garage and start stripping it and use the red one (the one i just bought) as my daily. I will post some picture tuesday. i'll keep you guys posted :D see you and happy driving

Do you need a 5spd living on a small island like Malta? Can you get it up to 60mph there?

no not on normal driving scenarios i.e going to work and such but i got it to 120kms (because we use KMs here :P) often times when i craves some "action" hahah i know 120kms are not that much but I never drove another car apart my b310 and i am use to slow speeds :( at least until i start to work on it (twin carbs ect.... later this year). if i may ask what are the top speed you both got from an a12?

If you don't want to share that info no problem :D

The maximum speed limit in USA is 75 MPH, close to 140kph. Most places it is 60 MPH.

My A12 easily does 80 MPH, at which speed the speedometer reads 90. The tested top speed for a 1200 is 90 MPH (150 kph). The B310 should slightly exceed that due to slightly better aerodynamics.

Best I saw with an A12/4spd B310 was 90-95mph, but it was spinning a very high RPM at that speed. And I only did it once. On average, I rarely drove it past 80mph.

Indeed. A 1200 seems to need a LOT more power to surpass 100-110. A B310 just needs a higher torque engine so it doesn't fall on it's face in 5th gear.

i started to thinker a little bit with is yesterday night haha lowered it a fair bit, not it corners fairly better (thank to you guys advices) (i would not do that to the silver one (I consider it as a part of the family haha ) since i still see it a cheap mod even though i have seen good result with chopped springs) . apart from lowering i started to take care of the engine and such. I refilled a bit the engine with some oil, added soem engine flush to it and ran it 20 minutes fast ideling, then filter an oil change. cleaned the carb as well. Now i need to change transmission fluid and differentail oil aswell (any hint on the consistency i should use???)

when cleaning the carb i noticed somthing strange. as ou know i have 2 1982 datsun b310, one silver and the red one i just bought. they have different carbs:

I was wondering, is it normal? where not all b310s have the same carb (apart from the gx)?

let me show you guys:

these are from the silver b310:

1800349_10152140969032367_545569939_n.jp

the following are from the red one:

1622008_10152140969302367_913100380_n.jp

notice how the one from the silver has 2 jets and the other one has one jet. the carb from the red b310 is not damged and when calling the previous owner he said that they never changed the carb. i though that all a12 had the same carb....
