strut inserts

anyone know where to get front strut inserts for a 71 510, im looking for stock inserts, anyone know a brand that will work.

Stock inserts only come from Nissan. Nissan part # 56110-22526 or 56110-N0725

ok any other brands out there work or would i have to make a spacer for my strut tube

No need to make a spacer. Just stack washers in the tube to the correct height.

thanks im new to datsuns but i like them and plan on having mine for a long time, ill pull them out and measure things to find the ones i need

Since you have to take them apart anyway to empty out the oil and to remove the strut and valves. Why not just replace the 40+ year old thin hydraulic oil with 20W motorcycle fork oil? I did this for $17 on my 710 but could have spent probably half that. The fork oil is thicker and comes in a variety of different viscosities. The stock oil is like water so something thicker is harder to push through the valving and firms up the ride. Fork oil is full of anti foam agents and rust inhibitors.
