4-speed and 5-speed driveshafts are the same 74-79, assuming you use a truck 5-speed.

There are 2 types of front driveshafts- '72-73, and '74-79.  This is due to the 73-73 having a shorter transmission.  It doesn't matter what body style.

There are also 2 types of rear driveshafts- a shorter one for SWB trucks (regular cab shortbed) and a longer one for LWB trucks (longbeds and King cabs).

This was all covered earlier today...

The 620 has a two piece driveshaft with a carrier bearing in the middle bolted to the rear crossmember where the torsion bars mount. This crossmember is in the same location for all King Cab, Long Bed and Regular cab short wheelbase trucks. Any differences in frame length are to the rear of the crossmember and are in the length of the rear driveshaft.

That said the 620 had two transmission lengths 26" and 31.5" and this is reflected in the front driveshaft lengths.

If you have the earlier short tranny with 'long' front driveshaft and switch to a later long tranny all you need do is get the 'shorter' front driveshaft with it. The 'shorter' front driveshafts were on the '74 and newer 620s.

cool thanks, now I have to find the shorter front driveshaft. Anyone have one ;)
