114 link timing chain on L28?

As far as I knew, I got a jive old N42 L28 block with the timing chain still with it. (just the block, I found a N42 head from somewhere else). Put the head on, and went to install a new chain, but turned out it was too short, I know its supposed to be snug, but this was a no-way-gonna-fit short. The new chain measured 110 links, which is the stock length right? The chain that came with the motor is 114 links, and after google searching it turns out that length was only used on a L20B?

TL;DR: Am I ok to run a 114 link chain on my L28 (as long as theres 42 links between the marks, per stock), or figure out how to make the stock 110 link work? (through sprocket change etc etc)
