dash lights

so when my dad and i were working on my 1978 620, i was playin with the dash light dimmer switch and they got stuck permently on, even when the truck and headlights were completly off, so my dad cut the switch off so it didnt run the battery down. and now even if we try to hook them back up, they wont turn on... help!

If he cut the switch, you should buy a good used switch. Because the wires are all the same color and you wont.know which wires to splice back together. Next time Dad should just unplug it instead of. Cutting it.

The dash lights can't be on when the headlights/parking lights are off. Dash lights come from the headlight switch and are on when the parking lights are on.

well they wouldnt shut off when the headlights were off... it also might be good to add that we had to buy a new universal switch because the old one was shot..

Yes, that would mean the old switch was shot

That would also mean the universal switch was wired wrong. Universal switches usually have a dimmer built in, the Datsun one did not. Or, got the dash lights wired to the dome light section of the universal switch (also something the Datsun switch didn't have).
