TyS
Forgive me for being newbie.... I have a 74 620 with an L 18. guy in wrecking yard has a Datson engine that came out of a 76 pick up. It looks almost identical to my L 18 except it says Nissan on the valve cover. I am trying to figure out how to upload pictures to my posts. What are some easy ways to figure out which engine this is. Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Look on the top of the block just below the head directly behind the dipstick. It will say L20B if it has the original motor. This motor will work if it comes with the 6 bolt flywheel. Your L18 5 bolt flywheel won't work on it. The exhaust manifold is also different. In fact it bolts to the bottom of the intake so separating them is problematic. You could swap your L18 intake and exhaust onto the L20B and but the L20B carb on it. This will at least bolt up to your exhaust down pipe. Get the L20B engine brackets... those are the things that bolt to the sides of the block and to the rubber isolators on the frame. The L18 ones might work.... Quote Link to comment
Eagle_Adam
valve cover doesnt indicate anything, passengers side of the block is marked with the motor size (L18/L20) and the head is also marked on the passenger side (A87/U67 Ect) Quote Link to comment
