Datsun1978
Any help to make my rear leaf springs more sturdy and at the same time lower in a little more its looks like last owner did some work to it to drop it bc it doesn't look like its stock height Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
It would be a good idea to take some pictures of what you have and learn how to post them here with your questions. http://community.rat...e-photo-albums/ Also your title is ambiguous .... B-210 Rear Spring Problems will get more attention Possibly the previous owner removed a leaf spring. This is very misguided in two ways as it lowers the spring rate. That means that the spring is softer and will travel further going over a bump. A lowered car that travels further on a bump???? Bottom out much????? It also reduces a spring's ability to resist side loads going around a corner. In extreem cases the rear axle will shift sideways and the tires rub the body. At the very least the spring can be left alone and spacers or blocks mounted between the spring and the differential carrier. Now you have a lowered car on stock springs. Better than removing a leaf but subject to some bottoming out on speed bumps still. Another is to have the arch or bend in the spring lessened by a shop. More work and same as above. Best is to remove an upper long spring and double a shorter spring below it to increase the spring rate (stiffness) and maybe lowering blocks. Now you are lower and the increased spring rate reduces the chance of bottoming out. Maybe lowered very slightly, not sure. Why are the marker lights black? Quote Link to comment
Datsun1978
The marker lights wr painted from last owner and its not all black just the metal the lights as still good they wr never painted over Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Good, I hate blacking out something designed to make you visible to other drivers. Could save your life. Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
1978 B210 came with black tailight trim from the factory, didn't they? I know the 1978 has the black grille and other black parts. What most of us do (in the B world) is take the 2nd leaf and bolt it above the top leaf upside down. You can't take the top leaf off as the car is suspended by it. This both lowers and stiffens the rear. Lowering blocks don't stiffen anything, but if you want it even lower you might use them. But try the flipped leaf first. Quote Link to comment
Datsun1978
Ok I hear you but ur saying make the arch go the other way kinda like making a circle right? You get me Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
flipped leave makes it have less arch, but does not make it arch the other direction. It also stiffens up the leaf pack. You can get your leafs re-arched (go to a spring company), but that doesn't neccesarily stiffen it. Quote Link to comment
Datsun1978
So I get the second to the bottom and throw it on top and I should be good right how many stacks are thr on the leaf spring ?
