Smyrna720
Okay, I want to make sure the cam is where it's supposed to be. First, the distributor drive gear is at 11:30. Got lucky on that one. I'll admit it, it was an accident. Next, this is how I held the chain tensioner in. This is where the cam is now. Engine is at TDC and I'm shooting for #1 TDC Compression. Cam pin is in the #2 hole. Here's where the lobes are at. How am I looking? I'm going to wait until I get a response before I go bolting the cam down. Plus I got a bunch of stuff to put back together anyways. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Well if you are sure that you are TDC the, crank sprocket will have a dot or small dimple on one of the teeth at or around 4 o'clock. Install the chain with one bright link on it, and the other bright link on the corresponding cam sprocket tooth dot. Quote Link to comment
Smyrna720
Well, I was double checking my old pictures and something didn't seem right. I went back to the motor on the stand and mocked it up. On the motor in the truck I didn't align the dots with the unplated links because I'm an idiot. I went back on the old one and did that. I timed that one up right and took cam measurements. I was a tooth off. I fixed it and put it together... Wait one, video to follow. Quote Link to comment
Smyrna720
Well, all I can really say from here is it runs. I'm going to post up some pictures from along the way. Junkyard head getting new valve seals that came with the head kit. Yes, that's a chunk of garden hose. Timing cover. Incorrect cam timing. Corrected cam timing. From this: To this. Like a bawse. 1 Quote Link to comment
