sr71sss
so you are looking for a truck 5 speed and have a zx 5 speed to trade ?? Im a little confused as to what you need correct sir I need the truck shortail 5 spd, trying to keep the swap simple, doing a friend a favor, dont want to create a big project for me-too many cars to fix right now Link to comment
datsunaholic
The 620 5-speeds are all longtail. The 280ZX trans should fit any 74-79 with no mods except changing the speedo pinion. The only truck shorttails were on later NAPS-Z 720s, and even then it wasn't all of them. Link to comment
Ranman72
correct sir I need the truck shortail 5 spd, trying to keep the swap simple, doing a friend a favor, dont want to create a big project for me-too many cars to fix right now datsunaholic is correct the stock truck tranny should be the same length as the zx tranny but if your looking for a long tail truck tranny I have one the short trannys were only in the early trucks like the 521 I think all 620,s had the long tail tranny Link to comment
datsunaholic
The 73 had a short tail trans, but there were no 5-speeds available then. It's possible to use a dogleg 5-speed in a truck, but it's inadviseable. Plus it's not as easy as it sounds since the mount is not in the same place as the original 4-speed nor in the location of the later longtails. Link to comment
datzenmike
'72- Sept '73 620s with L16 had short (26") F4W63 4 speeds and 3N71B automatics. All L18 and L20B equipped trucks from Oct '73 on had long (31.5") transmissions. Link to comment
Naco1
So to confirm. If I buy this. It will drop right in my 75 620 with a simple change of the tranny mount, correct? Link to comment
datsunaholic
If you buy the 280ZX trans for a '75 620? Drops right in- use the crossmember, soft mount, throwout bearing collar assembly, and slave cylinder from your EXISTING 4-speed. Link to comment
