zrex
Finaly found a day to change my clutch on my 720 4x4, Removed the tranny and found that the po installed a 225 mm flywheel. I have a few options i have a flywheel from my old 2+2 280z thats 240mm and a new centerforce clutch for a 225 flywheel. Any suggestions as to which flywheel i should use. If i change the flywheel to the 240 i need to order the correct bearing sleeve i know ! what about the arm? Lastly i drive often from El Cajon to Yuma im going about 55 to 60 in 4th over the hills. would the larger flywheel hurt or help me getting over the mountains.. thanks Rex Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Both flywheels are the same size and weight. Didn't the 225 mm clutch work fine? If it just wore out, fit a new one and be done with it for another 5 years. Light flywheels help acceleration. Heavy flywheels make the engine run smoother, and easier to take off, and easier to shift. Getting over the mountains is a wash whether you use heavy or lightened flywheel. Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Just get a 225mm and done. Flywheels are not all the same weight, even the same sizes... 29 pound 225mm 21 pound 225mm... notice the scalloped engine side. Lighter 225 or 250mm are probably from 280z/zx or Z24 motors that have heavier cranks and rotating mass. .. Quote Link to comment
