87hardbodry Posted July 19, 2012 Report Share Posted July 19, 2012 hey everyone my name is aaron im 19 and love nissan/datsuns. i need sum expertise or at least a helpful opinion. i own a 1987 hardbody the trans is screwed up. itll go in 3rd and 4th with no problems but i cant get in any other gear wether its running or not. any advice would be much (appreciated). thanks Quote Link to comment

datsunaholic Posted July 19, 2012 Report Share Posted July 19, 2012 Well, that's not much to go off of. You have 2 choices: 1) Repair Transmission 2) Replace Transmission Either way the transmission has to come out. Repair, you're going to need a manual (preferably the factory one) and a lot of patience because you still have to find what broke. Something in the linkage, I suspect. Parts are going to be dealer only and if some parts are NLA you'll be in trouble. Far, far easier to get another gearbox that isn't damaged. Some one else will have to chime in, but that's a FS5W71C transmission that was pretty common- used on the hardbodies on both the Z24i and the KA engines, though I don't know for how many years they're compatible.
