Which motor should I do?

I have a 1987 d21 with a dead z24i. It's time for a new motor, here is what my local junk yard has.

I know that I will need to deal with the wiring but that's not a big deal

93 pathfinder vg30e

98 pathfinder vg33e (not complete needs alt,ps, brackets, ect no ecu)

94 maxima vg30e

85 300zx with a bad motor but complete car

The only 2wd oil pan/pickup he has is from a 86 3.0 d21, will that fit the 93,98,maxima??

will the vg33 run with the vg30 computer, sensors etc...

as far as the ka24 motor goes I can not find a complete one (the harness has been cut, missng parts)

thanks

nice thought

I wonder what the cost would be?

Where's the calculator

R1s are cheaper than the Mikunis and SUs

But...you have to fabricate a manifold to run the R1s or SUs on the KA...not a biggie if one can weld.

The fact that the maxima was fwd will that cause problems?

it would seem that i can swap the pathfinder intake on

The reason I'm asking is because the maxima has the least of miles on it, and it has been under cover where as the vg30e has not it's still in the pathy with no hood on it.

Too bad you can't find a cheap stock Hitachi/Weber carb and IM to get it running............although...you would also need a low pressure fuel pump.

Shit....drop by......I'll fix you up till you amass all your parts for your 'upgrade'..... :D

And yes...oil pan clearances/MMs are of issue...but...being that you have a 2WD(?), should be an 'easier' fit than a 4x4

yes I have a 2wd

The jy has a 1986 hardbody 2wd 3.0 oil pan with pickup tube. I'm thinking that should bolt .?

Most gaskets only list 87-2004 but not 86. I'm thinking it's because the 86 shows a full gasket and the 87 shows two rubber pieces and silicon.

regard the fact that the VQ has different blocks for FWD and RWD as a failure, since it reduces interchangeability. the VG block is interswappable regardless of its source or destination. that is a win.

it would seem that the maxima also has fully floating wrist pins

if someone can conform this it would be great.

here's what i'm thinking for the motor (my truck is 87 2wd d21 z24i)

94 maxima vg30e

swap on a 93 pathfinder intake stuff and wiring and ecu

use 95-98 nissan quest serpentine belts and accessories

and a v6 5 speed trans from a pathfinder

1986 2wd d21 oil pan

Any body see any thing wrong or that I missed please feel to say so.

thanks

I can grap a 93 pathfinder setup it's 150k miles

The maxima block is just under 100k I was thinking of keeping the miles low,

if you all think it's better then i'll go that way.

I live in small town and the v6 stuff is easy to find whereas the ka's all are bad or missing tons of parts.

So the search goes on?

Is there any diesel motor swap options?

KA will be your best/easiest option.

And I wouldn't doubt it will end up being your cheapest.

What is your skillset that says you can do a VG swap?

Just cuz its available, doesn't mean its doable.

Hell. Finding a new KA powered hardbody will inevitability be cheaper than

Better yet-go find an L powered 620.

A camel is just a horse designed by a committee. If you get my drift. KISS (keep it simple stupid) this won't be easy to do even if you had a VG Hardbody sitting beside yours and did a straight swap. Mixing and matching years, models, fwd/rwd? ....no.

I have been working on cars for my self for 16 years and worked for a auto repair shop for 5 years before that. My d21 was a basic truck, now it has power windows, locks, tilt, climate control ac, cruise. using all nissan parts. When I got the truck it had no brakes now it's dual piston it front and rear disc instead of drums. So yes I knw that the vg swap is not easy, but neither is the ka24.

So yes I have the skills to tackle a motor swap.

the VG series engines are very versitile. All of the VG blocks share all of the same engine/transmission and accessory mounting bosses/locations, making mixing and matching parts from FWD to RWD configuration very easy. The VG30 and VG33 blocks are nearly identical other than bore size and minor water routing differences. Boring out a VG30 block to a VG33 bore size results in the same wall thickness as a VG33.

this is not the first time I have read this. At this point i have used google so much that I had to clean my Internet cache twice
