Stunt
I just purchased a 73 front bumper by accident. I tried test fitting it and the mounting tabs for the fender seems to be off. I don't have the front mounting brackets yet. What could I do to make it fit? Thanks any help would be appreciated. 1 Quote Link to comment
Datsun Bob
The 73 bumpers were spaced out further from the body than the 70-72 cars Nissan/Datsun used rubber fillers to fill in the gap and also used a huge heavy bracket to mount them to the Cars front frame horns This was the beginning of 5 MPH impact bumpers that over time got bigger and uglier . Easiest thing to do is make your own brackets to put it where you want it . The factory 70-72 brackets are nothing but flat steel stock with a couple holes and slight bends with one 90 degree bend at the end If you have a hammer vice and drill you should be all set The right is a mirror image of the left . There are several vendors on Ebay making them out of Aluminum if you dont want to . Quote Link to comment
Npdavies.
I've heard you can "slot" the bolt holes on the later brackets and by doing so, pull the bumper closer to the body. But as for fitting a 73 to an earlier Z, I would say just make your own. They are really simple in design. Quote Link to comment

ggzilla
1973 was the USA 2.5 mph bumper regulation (FMVSS No. 215) 1974 was the USA 5 mph regulation Quote Link to comment
I'm BLUE
Grab a 71 bumper with mounting brackets... or make your own 71 style bumper brackets/adapters. I slotted my 71 240z brackets in order to fit and pull the bumper closer to the body for looks. It's common sense really :) Makes a HUGE difference in looks .. at least I think so. Of course you could modify the later bracket's as well and work from there. Good luck ! Quote Link to comment
